Post it on time, too

Your own bot can post announcements at a set time or on repeat: event reminders, weekly recaps, maintenance notices. With Ruination Bots it runs under your server's name and avatar, and you set it up in the browser without code.

You get the whole product for 14 days without a card, once per account and once per Discord server. Afterwards the bot stops, nothing is charged and your setup is kept.

How Discord timestamps work

A Discord timestamp is a short code like <t:1798819200:F>. The number is a Unix time: the seconds since 1 January 1970, in UTC. The letter at the end is the style. Discord turns the code into a date in each reader's own time zone and language, so one message works for a server spread across the world.

Timestamps work in normal messages and in embeds and Components V2 messages. They show the same way on desktop and on the phone app.

All seven timestamp formats

CodeStyleGood for
tShort timeA start time on a day everyone already knows
TLong time, with secondsExact moments, such as a drop or a restart
dShort dateDeadlines in a compact list
DLong dateDates in announcements
fDate and time (the default)Events and meetings
FWeekday, date and timeBig announcements that must not be misread
RRelative, like "in 3 hours"Countdowns and "ends in" lines
Combine two styles for clarity. <t:…:F> followed by (<t:…:R>) shows the exact date and how long is left.

Where server owners use them

  • Event and game night announcements, so nobody converts time zones in their head.
  • Giveaway and application deadlines with a relative countdown.
  • Maintenance windows and server restarts.
  • Rules that change on a date.

Questions

How do I make a timestamp in Discord?

Pick the date and time on this page, copy the code of the style you want and paste it into a message. Discord shows it as a date as soon as the message is sent.

Why do other members see a different time?

That is the point of a timestamp. Each reader sees the moment in their own time zone, so 20:00 in Berlin shows as 19:00 in London.

What does the R format do?

It shows the time relative to now, like "in 2 days" or "3 hours ago", and keeps counting while the message stays in the channel.

Which time zone does this page use?

The one your device is set to. The code itself is in UTC, so it is right for everybody who reads it.

Can a bot post timestamps?

Yes. A timestamp is plain text, so a bot can put it in any message, embed or scheduled announcement.
